Luncheon
Dear Scott Friends:
At the request of many who attend the Scott Alumni luncheons that we hold
semi-annually in the spring and fall in the Philadelphia area, I have reserved
space for us at Aronimink Golf Club for the upcoming fall
meeting. The date will be Thursday, October 11. If
you would like to attend, please mark your calendar now. I will send a
note closer to that date asking for your check to pay for your place at the
luncheon.
As always, the event will start at 11:15 AM and lunch will be served at
12:15 PM. We should be finished by about 2:00 PM.
Some of you know that I have been working as a member of a national
steering committee whose goal is to increase the amount of renewable energy used
in the US to 25% by 2025. This is up from the mere 6% we currently have
available today. I would like to give you a short talk to familiarize you
with this initiative and to share with you some ideas that we can all consider
to become personally more energy efficient and effective. The 25x'25
Renewable Energy Initiative already has a tremendous amount of national
support.
- 26 governors have provided their endorsement
- 11 state legislatures have passed resolutions to move their state to 25%
renewables by 2025
- Well over 500 organizations, both national and regional have become our
partners in moving this initiative forward. They include major
corporations, major environmental groups, farm and forest organizations, and
many more.
- The US Senate unanimously passed a resolution to support 25x'25 as part of
the energy bill recently passed in the Senate. The House has a similar
resolution in the works which is expected to pass early this fall.
This initiative is very important for the US in terms of:
- Increasing national energy security
- Dealing with issues of climate change
- Dramatically increasing economic growth by bring home much business that
now goes offshore.
